This past year has really been the time for adventuring outside of my comfort zone where makeup and beauty are concerned. I’ve tried a bunch of new products, experimented with styles and improved my technique tenfold. So I thought it would be interesting to look back over the past year and think about my favourite products from the past 12 months.
Rather vague, I know. But before 2015, I’d never really been one for wearing a lot of lipstick, sure maybe on a special night out but not an awful lot. This year I’ve really found a love for lipstick and how it really finishes off a look. My dramatically improved lipstick collection is a sure sign of that. If I had to pick a favourite, ‘Dark Side’ would be right up there, closely followed by ‘Verve’, both by MAC. I love the drama that ‘Dark Side’ add’s to any look, it’s a perfect night out lipstick. ‘Verve’ is a really great dark nude, it looks so pretty with my skin tone and is perfect day or night.
Barry M – Daylight Curing Nail Polish
These polishes were released early in 2015 and I jumped straight on the band waggon, then later on in the year, they released new autumn shades, which I’m positive were made with me in mind. The consistency is smooth and fluid, and they last so much longer than regular nail polishes which was the whole idea of ‘daylight curing’, gel nails without the UV. I love that they’ve improved the brush making it wider and thicker to cover more surface area too, which makes for a much speedier application.
Zoeva – Luxe Highlight & Luxe Crease
Whilst the Zoeva collection brushes are new to me, I’ve been so blown away with the quality since I got them at the beginning of December. I guess I shouldn’t really call them a 2015 favourite, but a December fav for sure! They are the softest brushes I’ve tried, the application is so smooth and I’m yet to experience any malting.
The ‘Luxe Highlight’ brush is perfect for both my blush and highlight. I have quite a small face so blush brushes tend to cover much to much surface area and I end up looking like a clown, this one, however, fits perfect on my cheek bones. The bristles on the ‘Luxe Crease’ are long and softly pointed at the end meaning you can really get into the crease of the eye and work in that colour. I like the longer bristles because you get more movement out of them meaning it blends the product faster and in a more natural way.
Maybelline – Colour Tattoo
The ‘Colour Tattoo’ mousse eyeshadows from Maybelline are something I have talked a lot about this year. They’re a great base colour for any look but also look great on their own. They don’t crease and they stay on your lids all day, which for me makes a great product for work, easy quick application and no need to touch up at lunch time!
I have three shades in my collection; ‘On and On Bronze’, ‘Pink Gold’ and ‘Pink Pomegranate’. ‘Pink Gold’ has been my most reached for this year definitely, its shimmery pink so looks great on its own for day to day use but blends well with nudes and burgundy’s shades for something a little jazzier for a night out.
Barry M – Dazzle Dust
Had I not included the Dazzle Dust collection in this list, I feel I would have been lying to you all year. Like the Maybelline Colour Tattoo’s, I have talked about these so much in favourites, hauls, reviews and makeup edit posts all year round. I might even go as far to say they’re my favourite product of the year! You know what, I will. The Barry M Dazzle Dusts are my all time favourite product of 2015.
I love glitter, everybody knows that and these Dazzle Dusts are a perfect way of adding shimmer to your eyes without going full-on Disney princess. They apply great with your finger or a brush, with very little fallout, unlike the MAC Pigments which shed like crazy! And at a 3rd of the price too.
Becca – Shimmering Skin Perfector
Again this is another product that I’ve picked up more recently, so maybe it deserves to be more of a December favourite than in the 2015 category. But I have really loved the ‘Shimmering Skin Perfector’ by Becca over Christmas.
Some highlighters for me don’t give enough oomph, they don’t highlight as much as I’d hope they would, or they tend to run to pinky. There are a few different shades to choose from in the Becca collection meaning you can really tailor your shade to what you’re after. They’re ever so slightly shimmery so they catch the light perfectly and make you look glowing not a sweaty mess. I’ve got both ‘Champagne Pop’ and ‘Opal’, the latter being my favourite but I honestly love them both. ‘Opal’ is more like the glow you’d get from the moon whereas ‘Champagne Pop’ has more of a warm, gold undertone to it.
I’m so glad I’m starting off 2016 with this post, it’s really fun to look back at things that you have loved over the past 12 months. It’s actually got me really excited for all the new releases and being able to experiment with new products. I’m hoping that Barry M expands their ‘Dazzle Dust’ collection, hint hint Barry M, hint hint.
I hope you had a fabulous 2015 and celebrated the new years in style.
